Project:
2D Animation Practice
RATIONALE: Intention
My aim to to improve and better my understanding of 2D animation fundamentals, as well as possibly exploring some minor 3D Elements in order to feel more comfortable in that field.
CONTEXT : Field
I’ll be focusing on showcasing the work of other indie animators and creators, as well as learning from masters of the art.
METHOD:
PRODUCTION TOOLS:
OUTCOME
My end goal for this unit it to have produced a number of short animations that further my understanding of fundamentals of the medium. I hope to also exploring 3D in the form of modelling in order to move toward understanding rigging and 3D animation as a whole down the line.
1. Rationale / Intention
I aim to begin to develop a short films in response to the lack of content for the Young University/College student age demographic.
2. Context: Field
3. Method
4. Production: Tools
In my research I have observed that there tends to be a great deal of High School dramas mainly focused toward 14 - 18 year olds, followed by a gap in content for 18 - 25 year olds in an environment specific to them (College/University). This is then followed by a collection of content aimed toward an older young adult, ranging from 25 - 35 years in environments specific to them (Full Time Job, ETC.)
Content that is specific to the 18 - 25 year old experience (Ie: College/university style coming of age stories) tends to be scarce in the way of telling authentic feeling, relatable stories.
What exists of this content tends to feel in-authentic to the University/College experience, as the story told for this demographic tends to fall into the genre of Crude/Sex Comedy.
For my thesis, I am to begin development of a short film. The film will focus on on telling an authentic feeling story of a young adult (18 - 25) attending a College/University. I want to focus on the authentic, sometimes cheesy moments one might experience when having what feels to be a late coming of age story in a College/University setting.
