Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

CONTEXT:

"Creativity, Inc" By Ed Catmull.

This book goes into the birth of CGI Animation and Storytelling from the eyes of one of the founders of Pixar.

In one short excerpt, he talks about how he developed software in order to create the first ever fully animated CGI hand. This was conducted with a fellow University colleague on class time. This act of tinkering was integral and fundamental to the birth of the golden era of CGI animation that we are now in.
I also looked into character design and its relations to shapes. Ed Catmull describes in his book that he had little understanding of what defined character and actual character design appeal when he first started up Pixar, which lead to him recruiting an ex-Disney Animator who took the reigns of story and artistic direction within the company at its beginning.

PRODUCTION:

For todays class I began verly simply with focusing on starting from the bare-bones basics of character design and seeing what I could create from that. I began with drawing simple, random shapes on paper, then found myself attempting to visualise facial features and face shapes on each of them. This was a great way to flex my character design skills in an unconventional way and explore anunfamiliar art-style.
