Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Going over the previous work I had created, the infection animation was something that needed to be changed. Some of the feedback from playtesting, pointed to there not being much of a struggle when the parasite infects the creatures, and I wanted the infection process to feel uncomfortable for the creatures themselves, as opposed to them just ‘waking up’. I broke them into three sections, initial contact – struggle – and possession. With the initial contact and struggle being more violent in terms of movement, before finally coming to settle in the characters base pose. The way I went about creating the chaos for the infection was by using the body to guide movement. Randomly setting keyframes for body position and then figuring out limb movement to match. This ended up making the motion feel unpredictable yet plausible as the limbs followed through the existing motion.

I created these for the roller, jumper, and climber, and these were partially inspired by the mounting mechanics in Monster hunter games, where the creature is constantly trying to throw the player off, using whatever method available.
