Board games is a type of game has evolved with human cultures and societies (Livingstone and Wallis, 2019). Many board games are digitalized and can be played online now like Splender, Monopoly, and Catan. However, in terms of gameplay, digitalization doesn't enrich the gameplay and even worse: diplomacy as an important aspect of board games is difficult to be properly implemented in digital version of boardgames. Contemporary technologies like VR and AR can be a part of board games’ mechanic like what have been done in Beast of Balance. Players in Beast of Balance take turns stacking miniatures on the AR reader-equipped Plinth of Life to create and evolve an ecosystem of unique creatures (Carter, 2021).
SliMachinery is a prototype for a AR board game based on Unity’s AR foundation and Google’s AR Core which transfers conventional turn-based combat of players’ imagination into an ‘augmented’ reality. It is not only about visualization, players need to actively interact with this augmented layer of the board game: collecting resources from them and moving around the space to find a perfect angle to engaged in comabt.
