Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Since the main mechanic of my game is swinging, I tried to create an animation for when the character is climbing up a vine or a rope. To build this animation, I took references from a number of 2D and 3D animations, seen in other games. I couldn’t find a lot of reference in 2D that I liked, so I had to expand my search to 3D and try to replicate that in a 2D environment. It was a fun little experiment to think about how a 3D animation and character would look in a 2D game and try and build out that animation.

Like the previous animation, I created two different variations of the climbing animation too. I also played around with the timing of the animation to create an effect that I plan to use when a player climbs a vine at different speed. I like how the animation on the bottom turned out, it looks like the character is using a lot of strength to climb up the rope, and I feel like I can use this animation when I want the character to pull heavy stuff towards her too.
