With the increasing pressure of work and study, people's exercise time is being compressed, resulting in an increasing number of people suffering from obesity and sub-health. As a fan of outdoor game design, I wanted to design an outdoor game with a lot of movement in conjunction with this week's theme of play and body. I was inspired by a computer game called "fall guys" and wanted to incorporate the gameplay elements into my outdoor game.

Context:

The cartoon character "Garfield" has the following line: "It's great to get pleasure from exercise that doesn't make you gain weight". This shows that conscious exercise is more painful. How to make people who are not interested in sports also exercise? I think combining professional sports movements with outdoor games is a good solution. First I got inspiration from the common poses of yoga. The second step according to these sports movements through the form of sketches to record. With the art materials, I got inspiration from "fall guys" in terms of gameplay. I think fall guys is popular partly because of its competition mechanism. (Use strategies to hinder your opponent from accomplishing their goals while also finding ways to accomplish your own.)I hope to add this game mechanic to outdoor games, so that players can unconsciously complete professional sports actions in the game.

Method:

Use the psychology of competition in the game to reduce the effect of weak willpower on the effect of exercise.

The rules are as follows:

Players are given the same number of cards at random

During the play phase, players play one action card and one time card. Players have to imitate the action on the card and keep the time on the time card (if they succeed, they get one point and face up the card; if they fail, they do not score and face down the card).

The player with the highest score wins when all players have finished playing their cards.

There are three types of cards:

Time cards (green): you need to imitate the duration of the action on the card

Action cards (red, yellow):

The red action card is where the player designates another player to complete the action on the card

Yellow action cards are required to complete the actions on the cards themselves

The small dot in the upper right corner indicates that the cards should be read and imitated from this direction.

Reflection:

The aim of the game is to help people who need to exercise but have little self-control to improve their mental health through the competitive mentality of the game.

The original design of the game did not design the action cards to be completed by other players, but after testing the game, players commented that there was no need to try to complete difficult actions and the game lacked tension. Based on this comment I made changes and added the element of competition. The game was then tested again。

A few comments were made by participants after the game:

1. would like to see some sustainable moves such as continuous jumping(jumping jack)

2. hope will extend the duration of the poses (just holding a pose for a very short period of time does not provide a good workout)

3. Ambiguity in determining whether the actual action is the same as the action on the card

However, given that the original purpose of the game is to encourage exercise, the criteria for determining consistency may not need to be very strict. Otherwise participants may be given up imitating poses when they see a difficult one.

As a result of these suggestions, new card types will be added in subsequent versions, the duration on time cards will be extended and the art style of the action cards will be revised to try to give players a clear picture of the action.
