This work generates ideas from considering time as the gameplay and explores how it could be used in a game. It explores how to actually convey players the illusion of manipulating time.
By using a rhythm bar requiring players to press specific button to hold that time freezing time status, it creates pressure and tension to players which will contribute to an illusion of they are actually doing hard to keep time freeze. Additionally, the game as a medium enables the other character and even environment could be freeze with players’ behavior which couldn’t be achieved by other animation.
This work is similar to the Life is Strange by Square Enix which used reversed action of characters and soundtracks to form a illusion of reversing time. It inspires me about using other objects to form the illusion of changing of time.
After discussion, I found I could remove the bullets and puzzle part from the game. Instead focusing on the balance between keep time freezing and move the character.
