For this animated narratives workshop, we were practicing rapid iterative exercises and looking at developing premises for interactive and linear stories.
The group exercise was difficult because working collaboratively over online classes is still a new and difficult medium to work in. The individual practice was really good for me, I found. Developing a narrative in a group is tricky when some people may lack confidence in speaking up for their ideas.
For our group exercise, we used the premise 'What if only carrots grew in fields?' and developed a synopsis about a despotic rabbit regime that has control over the carrot industry and develops carrot based weapons in a carrot war. This is something we could develop as an interactive or linear story.
For my individual work, I explored the premise 'what if birds barked and dogs chirped' and went down a similar path of exploring despotic government regimes and conspiracies, and how beloved dogs would be if they didn't bark and how birds would be discriminated against for their noisy barking.
