Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Based on the quick sketch exercise I did with other students in Week 5, I wanted to test animating squiggly lines and worm-like shapes for the flute.

This was my process:

  1. Started off with a floppy triangle - but I didn't really like how I ended it with it transforming into something rigid and zig-zaggy
  2. Squiggly line - didn't think this worked
  3. Tried a butterfly - which I thought worked well, but may have been too literal
  4. Tried going back to triangles in the form of a butterfly - nope, didn't work out at all
  5. Tried just transforming a single triangle - didn't work out either
  6. Went back to my original floppy triangle which I thought was most successful, and fixed thte way it ended (so it remains 'floppy' throughout, like a fish)

Through this process, I realised just how slow I am at animating something this simple. Feeling a bit concerned about the whole project, and whether I can pull this off. I was the happiest with the last floppy triangle and the butterfly, as I feel like both gave that sense of flutter and light-weightedness I get from the flute. If this wasn't an abstract project, I probably would've stuck with the butterfly, but I'm happy with the floppy triangle too.

Stop: Stop going too literal with this (getting into animals, etc.). Stay abstract.

Start: Start getting quicker with Toon Boom. Maybe learn some of the keyboard shortcuts.

Keep: Keep going!
