Playtesting & problems:
Chau

  • put a pop up saying which fox I am?
  • I feel like the gravity in the game is quite heavy.

Erin

  • sometimes the fox falling in someplace, it will reborn at a place which does not have a land to landing, and keep falling and reborn and falling

Chris

  • like the rotating mechanic
  • a lot of "generic" platformer tropes in there (sound, characters, etc)
  • Is there a way to allow the work to become "aware" of its existence as generic?
  • (IE - temporarily "breaking the mould" https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-07-24-the-classic-8-bit-isometric-games-that-tried-to-break-the-mould)
  • linked discussion shows that attention to the mechanics (and also genre) can make for interesting surprises.
  • Also, vaporwave games: https://itch.io/games/tag-vaporwave

Yao

  • maybe there can be an indication of some sort before the platforms disappear and level changing
  • rotating planks sometimes doesn't restore balance automatically
  • I mean the larger one in one of those bottomless levels. It's stuck in a vertical position and I have to sacrifice myself to bash on it to have the position restored
  • the platforms feel much lighter than the character, even though it's so much larger and it feels like the inertia should be reflected by the movement
  • is it possible to have some pass-throughable planks implemented so that the character doesn't get stuck walking on the ground level
  • horizontally passing through

Sdust

  • give me feeling of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
  • While I think you need to adjust your way of tutorial. It is a little bit mess although there's not much things to introduce. Here's some suggestions:
  • You could introduce those platforms in a sequence. Show them one by one and let players play with a platform for a few seconds. That will help them on memorising and understanding the mechanic.
  • You could also introduce them in further levels. Make a level focusing on specific mechanic will also help players to understand.
  • I think you also need to change the looking of different platforms in game.
  • It is very hard to distinguish them which will cause a worse experience.

Cindy

  • like how the music getting more intense as the game counting down
  • Animation
  • adding a few frames in animation: when the fox jump and touch the ground again, you can add one frame that the fox bend down a bit (the one you already have when the fox is standing)
  • maybe when the fox fall down from the sky he could raise both of his hands or struggle a bit in the sky

Xin

  • like the part using bullet to interact with the other player
  • However using one hand to control the bullet and directing is a bit busy for me. It might be easier to use both hands

Juan:

  • Up & down platforms
  • Punish the player by falling through the bottom
  • Can be a strategy for the other player

Kay:
More means to attack the other player

Sahaj:
The start button doesn’t look like a button

Jadd:

  • The screen wrapping is a nice touch
  • It's a bit hard to reach platforms, especially those directly above you.
  • It feels a bit unforgiving when platforms appear and re-appear randomly without warning or feedback. The randomness is fine, but players should be given some warning to allow them to adjust accordingly (or else the player feels like they're being punished for no fault of their own.)
  • Tilting platforms feel unforgiving and too reactive to the player landing on them.
  • Instead of the red/blue squares above players, recolouring the foxes to reflect the colours in your promo art could feel more cohesive.

Reflection & suggestions:
Priority

  1. Make the work become "aware" of its existence as generic/ situate the work in the field
  2. Make the platforms look different
  3. Make a clearer tutorial
  4. Indication before the platform disappear
  5. Sensitivity of the rotating platform
  6. Animation of the character
  7. Input with one hand
  8. Feel of the gravity

New features:

  • Players are allowed to jump onto the platforms from the bottom
  • Changed the sensitivity & add a limit to the hinge joint of the platforms
  • Change the look of different platforms
  • Change the sprite colour of the alien fox
  • Instead of using the red and blue indicator
  • Make the flashing platforms slightly transparent to indicate something will happen before they disappear
  • Make the start button in tutorial looks more like a start button
