RATIONALE – why are you doing what you are doing?
Before that, I used to make storyboards and then go straight to animation, but this caused me a lot of problems, such as not being able to control the pacing and the duration of each shot, making Animatic allows me to better control the timing of the shots and the pacing of the whole film.

CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?
Storyboards are not simply boards that tell stories – they are “a material contract between the artist and the future film” and “‘boundary objects’ that bridge different knowledge and development states” (Blatter, 2007: 4; 5), thereby connecting the activities of a range of personnel in the overall production pipeline. They are therefore key pre-production assets that need to be understood across a variety of contexts – not all of which are directly (if at all) to do with “telling the story”. (Animation storyboarding as part of the pre-production process: An Aardman case study,Ward, Paul ,2020) So, I decide try to do a animatic based on my storyboard, this is a key progress for a animation.

METHODS – how will you do what you are doing?
I wanted to use Toonboom storyboard, but my license expired last semester and I didn't have time to replace it. So first use Animate instead, and later record the frame count to control the pace. I will use the equipment to shoot directly to control the duration of the footage for the real time design later.

OUTCOMES – what are the tangible objects that must be made to articulate success?

In this assignment, what I have to finish is the full Animatic, but since one of the main scenes in my split-screen design is a pond with lotus flowers in bloom, but the park where I choose to shoot the video has no lotus flowers in bloom yet in this season, so when the time comes for production, I will replace this part of the video and re-shoot the scene with lotus flowers. And this time the video is just a demonstration of how the animated part of the scene and the real part of the scene interact and overlap. (The full Animatic is in the file package)
