Weekly response 7
MAGI Website:
RATIONALE – why are you doing what you are doing?
This week I designed most of the main animals in the cartoon, such as butterflies, goldfish, dragonflies and frogs. For their drawing style, I have decided to use Chinese ink and wash style for the first few weeks, and I will refer to the real animals for their forms.
I did this because I wanted to get a better understanding of the animals' forms, colors and characteristics. Although it is not difficult for me to draw a butterfly or a goldfish, it is the first time to combine Chinese ink and wash style. So I needed to find a lot of reference images to make sure I didn't overlook the animals' features.
And I needed to extract the animals from the poem and make them interpret the scene in the pond.
CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?
As Matt said, a lot of MAGI students have tried Chinese ink style animation, but I watched their work and most of them have human as the theme. And I want to try the animals in ink style. Also not long ago, McDonald's launched a new commercial in China, which also used Chinese ink style animation to produce. (https://b23.tv/CJsTgya)
METHODS – how will you do what you are doing?
First, I will first refine the animals in the verse I have chosen. Second, I find the ink style of this animal to learn how to draw it. Third, I will find many forms of this animal as a reference for drawing, color and morphological features. Fourth, I will draw it in procreate according to the information.
OUTCOMES – what are the tangible objects that must be made to articulate success?
Design board of butterfly, dragonfly, goldfish and frog.
