INQUIRY:

Started as "Find (explore with) a Hybrid between Illustration and Animation". However, after going through the mind map and going back to my previous studies about animated series (cartoons) and how these are a resource for the transmission of cultural, educational and social values, I realized that this inquiry needed to be adjusted. The true foundation for this project is to create an audio-visual production which will be able to demonstrate that the colombian education system can be strengthen by cartoons.

RELATED PRACTICE:

In 2013 when I started my career as a freelance artist my 1st major project was "Rescuing the Galaxy Geome". The project was one of the pioneers to show the effects of Gamification on the colombian educational system. It was an educational videogame which was displayed over 90 colombian schools, throwing back incredibly possible results exposing the positive impact of linear and interactive narratives as teaching tools. Since then, I've been able to participate in 4 major projects supported by the colombian ministry of education, with 1 of them being awarded. But, for some reasons these projects haven't been able to go through testing phases, even when the results are great these are not the expected by the ministry of education. During meetings with the other developers of these projects we have concluded that there are shortcomings related to the Engagement stimulated on the user. I think that these weak points can be related and strengthen by a successful Narrative structure.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PRACTICE:

This project pretends to design a pilot (Cinematic) by using specific linear narrative structures and art direction (learned and explored through the MAGI program) which will be capable of communicate certain cultural, educational and social concepts. Through the results collected during the investigation and development process, the project will be able to contribute to the interactive educational content industry in Colombia which is taking its first steps, granting new tools which will allow to create material capable of proposing much more attractive alternatives for students and change the current teaching ways, and pedagogical models implemented in Colombia.
