Tis' but a primordial idea :/

Sound design would play a major role in the game.

The main sources of inspiration for sounds are Resident Evil 7 and Little Nightmare.

In Resident Evil 7, I've learned that silence could be a powerful tool to convey the feeling of suspense and fear. In addition, it could effectively replace the uneasy background music to pump up the adrenaline. When the sound of your footsteps is the only thing you heard when venturing into a void, your mind has already switched on the defense mode because it wants you to be aware of what could happen to you in a strange environment. Our mind makes us fear the unknown because it cannot foresee the threats.

Au contraire, in Little Nightmare, they use ambience instead of silence. The ambience has subtle beats that lead us to feel build-up tensions. They also use echoes to create the ghastly effect indicating an invisible occurrence which is not only peculiar but mysterious as well.

I’ve read somewhere about DJs actually adjust their beats and tempos to manipulate our rush of adrenaline. This is how they are able to heat up the stage, party and dance floor. Past research has shown that different genres of music varying in tempo can have numerous effects on the body such as physiology, psychology and many others to name but a few. Although heart rate varies between individuals due to genetics, fitness level and other factors that may involve, we all have a common preferred tempo which is around 120 to 130 beats per minute (bmp).

Notes: An average resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minutes and for athletes, lower heart rate at rest implies that they have more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness. For instance, a professional athlete can have heart rate of nearly 40 bmp.

And, I wonder, should I use ambience or silence to directly create an impact on players…
