Studio 2_WIP wk1 - wk 2: https://youtu.be/ag2WisCKiB0
Rationale
For Studio 2 project, I would like to continue with my project from studio 1. I would like to create an interactive book with AR animation and mini game. The aim of the project is to utilize the interactive story book to present the social issue in a more comprehensive way and also engage the target audience in conversation of human trafficking.
Context
There are many great example with AR books. Such as Peter Rabbit punished by Bookful or Toy Story 4 Woody's AR Adventure. There are also toys that comes with AR. As for pop-up books, Colette Fu have created pop-up arts with her fascinating photos, telling stories of Chinese.
Method
I will experiment on building pop-up book and also how AR can be utilized to create an interactive story/ animation within the pop-up book environment. I build the book with card stock. And I will also create animations that will be triggered by the book.
Outcome
A 5 pages pop-up book with AR animations and a mini detective game within the book.
Wk 1- 2 Work in process
I have been working on a small scale prototype of the first page of the book. I have researched on the mechanism of pop-up book. I used the houses and characters I have created in studio 1. I draft out the background in illustrator and printed the graphics out; then paste them on to card stock. . I also started to pick up Toon Boom. I created a looping animation of my protagonist.
While making my prototype, I discovered that the contrast of the front object and background is crucial in pop-up book. In order to focusing on the main subject of the page, drafting out layers (pop-up objects and AR) beforehand can provide a better sense of the key elements being shown in the narrative
In week 3, I will experiment a few more pop-up mechanism to further decide which ones I will be using. In week 4, I will try to work with Toon Boom and animate other characters. I will also try the AR to see how EyeJack work with the pop-up book.
