Weekly response 9
MAGI Website:
RATIONALE – why are you doing what you are doing?
This week I made the original animations of the little animals. When I drew them, I had drawn the animals in layers and then I needed to divide their different body parts into different PSD documents. After that I made them into different animated components that can be animated in regular motion based on learning AE's function animation. This is to make it easier to put them into the real world video for animating, because the animals are in regular motion, for example, butterflies and dragonflies need to keep waving their wings, even when they stop, they just slow down the frequency of wing flapping, because they are very light and need to keep flapping their wings to maintain body balance. I have hardly seen any goldfish floating, even when they are sleeping, they still swing their bodies intermittently, so I chose to create animated components of their regular movements.
CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?
China style animation studio makes a lot of animations that tell the story of China, many of their shots are also from AE production, but still have a great feeling, I want to integrate such animations into the real world. (This one is about a poem about spring https://b23.tv/qQcbfrk )
The ink animation "Butterfly Chasing" by Shuangshuang Wang also makes a lot of use of AE to produce this animation. The animation shows children chasing a yellow butterfly, which hides among the cauliflowers, and is also a famous line from an ancient Chinese poem (https://b23.tv/7trZx1T )
METHODS – how will you do what you are doing?
1. Save each part of the animal as a different PSD
2. put the decomposed animals into AE one by one to make regular individual animations
3. Experiment to put them into the video
OUTCOMES – what are the tangible objects that must be made to articulate success?
1. Butterfly components
2. Dragonfly components
3. Goldfish components
