Shadow Hunts

Setting:

Two-player game

One player controls the character, the other one controls the shadow of the character. Two players need to cooperate and help each other to beat the enemy and troubles

Duties:

The character: movement, adjust the torch, switch props

Player A controls the movement of himself, and the moment of the shadow partner by adjusting the torch’s position. The player can also equip and switch some props, to change the shape of the shadow so that the shadow can have some special abilities.

The shadow: combat, solving puzzle.

The player needs to solve the puzzle to let the character keep escape from the shadow monster. The shadow also needs to use the right mechanics to beat the monster.

Process

Stage 1: exploration level

Begin with a short, slow pace exploration level. There are some simple puzzles designed for guiding players to understand the game mechanics. For example, the character can lower his body so that the shadow become lower too to pass some barriers, by adjusting the torch’s direction and position, the position, and size of the shadow will change and, by extinguishing the torch, the shadow will temporarily disappear to pass some barrier as well.

Stage 2: chasing a boss fight

After the exploration level, a boss fight which a shadow monster chasing players will start.

Player A’s job is to help the shadow player fight, he needs to control the movement of the shadow and switch the right props to provide the shadow with special abilities. For example, he can equip an animal skull so that the shape of his shadow will become a dragon who can spitfire or, he can wear a bag on his head so that the shadow can turn into a wizard to use some spells.

Shadow monster can only be beaten by the shadow, the player B needs to combat the shadow monster by using mechanics to deal damage to the monster.

During the boss fight, except fight with monsters, the shadow also needs to solve puzzles to help the character pass some barrier

Mechanics Option list:

The core concept: The interaction between, the light source and the character can change the shadow

1, Torch: Adjusting torch to change the position and shape of the shadow

2, Put down the torch: so the character can something else to change the shadow.

3,(Optional)Switch the equip to change the shadow shape
Use gesture to change the shadow instead of switching equip


Puzzles Option list:
1, Shadow changes its shape, to cover the certain area of light coming out from the door or other barriers to open it.

2, The shadow do some actions to change other objects' shadow to change the reality.

3, Shadow interacts with the environment.

4, Use the torch to lighten other objects at a certain angle to show their shadow and then interact with that shadow.

5, Torch interacts with the environment.

6, Multiple torches to allow more complex puzzle designs.


Story background:

The character is a social Phobia patient, after being alone for a long time, he starts to imagine his shadow is his friend in order to feel less lonely. So the whole story happened within his mind, those shadow enemies are metaphors of those awful memories that happened during his childhood. In order to clearly show all the shadows, there must be a screen or wall in the background, that wall is also a metaphor which is the wall that closed his mind from going out and touches the outer world. In the end, after beating all the troubles, the character can face himself and the world, there would not have a wall anymore, simultaneously, the shadow partner will disappear, because the character can take care of himself from now on.
