This week I shifted my focus away from mechanics and gameplay and instead focused on exploring level design, by building a standalone nature environment. I was interested in creating two very different environments that were still linked through the same physical space. I used pre-made assets from The Unity Asset store to assemble the scene, as well as the terrain editor. I attempted to make the scene from a fixed camera angle, concentrating on composition over creating a playable environment, so as to explore the effects of composition, mood, perspective, and post processing effects, on the design of the level. After creating the nature scene, I added post processing effects. Then, I stripped the scene of its life, removing trees and plants, and changing the grass textures to stoney textures, to simulate what the environment would look like in a barren world (perhaps like one might find in a post-apocalyptic Fallout game).
