Studio 1 Animation Test

https://youtu.be/TqZfLqI0j5Q

This animation test is integral to my examination of delicacy in my work. My studio project is about creating warmth and coziness, and magnifying the ‘labor’ in this ‘labor of love’.

This work sits within the field of 2d animation, and I found the work of Hiroyuki Oikura to be a major inspiration this week. Oikura’s ability to capture realistic, detailed animation is significant both in terms of technical ability and the effect it has on his work overall. The realism gives emotional weight to characters' expressions, and elevates the importance of everyday moments, forcing the audience to pause and enjoy these moments.

Hence, by animating this kind of detailed animation I am hoping to create a similar effect by magnifying this action. I hope that this work brings a sense of delicacy to the audience, and thus an appreciation to this weaving process.

This work was made using OpenToonz, and a lot of different reference footage. I started animating without a real end to the motion in mind, just drawing what I expected to be the keyframes and trying to time it all accurately at the end. There are a few elements I’d like to change, like the grey tool the hands use and I’d like to edit the threads a bit more, but overall I am quite happy with how this first attempt turned out.
