1. Rationale: Intention

I would like to explore creating a looping animation of a character in an environment. I would like to explore the concept of combining 3D elements and models with 2D animation to see if it would be beneficial.

3. Method

I would first start by creating different concepts and layouts for the animated scene, seeing what sort of environments could be feasible for me to create and what would be the most interesting. I would also create focus on the character art, creating different concepts for them. Testing out grey boxing the environment and seeing how having a 3D environment would aid me with 2D animation. Creating different draft animatics/comics to decide what I want looping. I may also create a brief story summary or outline for what I want to portray in the scene as I want the character to fit in as a part of the world and be cohesive.
4. Production: Tools and Timeline
Tools: Clip Studio Paint, Blender, After Effects

Week 1: Story drafting - writing up the world setting and how the character fits into the world, creating quick thumbnails of the scene

Week 2: concept sketches of the character and environment, testing out different styles

Week 3: ideas for the animated loop, greybox the environment

Week 4: create an animatic and test how a 3D environment would look

Week 5: testing out different ways to do 2D animation - CSP, Blender - grease pencil, creating assets then animating them in after effects, etc

Week 6: continue with testing out different methods for 2D animation

5. Outcome

A collection of animation tests, trying out different styles and ways to do looping animation.
