Folio Plan and Mind Map
MAGI - Folio Plan
Rationale: Intention
Why are you doing what you are doing?
My intention behind my semester’s work will primarily be to learn and experiment with new software. Secondly, it will be to provide entertaining and original content that is unlike things that are commonly created in the industry. I hope to create exciting work with interesting elements and themes.
What would you like to explore and experiment with in your folio work?
Technically, I would like to explore use of the Toon Boom Harmony Software to create a 2D animation. I would like to experiment in making short, black and white cartoon style animations.
What concepts are you examining?
I have always been interested in exploring areas outside traditional ‘cute’ animation styles. I hope to explore creating ugly characters and experimenting with off-putting content types in a humorous tone.
Context: field
Who else is doing what you are doing?
Vincent (1982) - Tim Burton
Perseplis (2007) - Marjane Satrapi
LORN - ANVIL (2016) - GERIKO (Hélène Jeudy & Antoine Caëcke)
What fields does your work sit within?
2d animation
Design
Video production
Visual development
Character design
Comedy?
Who are the outstanding practitioners / researchers / critics within the field?
Raphael Bob-Waksberg
Lydia Schumacher
Liz Giuffre
Lucy Baxter
Smaller - achievable goals & how they could help you reach your bigger goals
My first goal is to become proficient in Toon Boom Harmony. My second goal is to create a piece or collection of small works that could be used in my folio. I also hope that these short works might inspire larger projects in the future.
Production: Tools
Toon Boom Harmony Software
Mac Book Pro
iPad
Adobe Suite
Touch screen monitor
How will you make the work?
I plan to make the work on Toon Boon Harmony, however I will start the initial designs by hand drawing them. This is because hand drawing is an area that I feel more comfortable in than using technology.
What is your process? When will you do what?
I will start practicing with small, simple and short animations. I will then brainstorm a theme / concept for a slightly longer animation to work on during the second half of the semester. Throughout the process I will be continuously looking for inspiration and gaining technical skills.
