The First Tree is a third-person exploration game which follows a mother fox searching for her lost cubs. This game features an unconventional narrative, which is actually two parallel narratives: the fox's journey to find her cubs, which is played out while conversations between a man and his partner play in the background, where they discuss their past, and the man's relationship with his father. Notably, the game was also created by a novice game developer in Unity; they had little experience in coding or 3D modelling, and instead used pre-made assets for the game systems, models, and music, thus devoting more time to story, mechanics and customising these assets, to create a coherent visual and thematic experience.
