Ian Hubert is a film director, writer, and a VFX Artist. He is well known for his work Tears of Steel, DYNAMO, and his lazy tutorials on how to use blender on YouTube.
Though he is mostly looked as a VFX artist for film, he also does VFX for music videos for Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, and Camilla Cabello. His main tool for creativity is Blender and has been using it for a very long time. VFX Companies tend to use Houdini as a standard industry program and Houdini may sound intimidating and difficult, but Ian Hubert reassured us to the aspiring VFX Artist that we can create amazing VFX work through Blender. He taught us with simplicity, he can create complexity. One of the examples are his tutorial of creating a school of fish in blender by only creating a non-detailed object model and replace its UV mapping to a picture of a real-life fish.
Personally, I do believe that aspiring VFX Artists should learn Houdini, but due to financial reasons or some other reasons that people might not be able to achieve the opportunity to learn, they couldn’t. But for Ian Hubert, he showed that anyone can start learning simple VFX without causing a deteriorating in the wallet through Blender.
