Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity
  1. Describe/define the aim of your research in one sentence.

The aim of my research is to help create a better and more impactful comic that not only reads and has emotional engagement to hook the reader, but also incorporates my own personality and skills as an animation director.

  1. What is your practice component of your research?

I am going to iteratively refine the design of a select number of pages spreads in a comic, focusing on panels shape and flow, character poses and overall composition.

  1. How will you proceed with this? (ie project plan)

There will be three stages (four if you include the pre-production stage) starting with initial roughs of the page spreads, done in bold black and white to really grasp the initial composition and flow. After a review and annotation, the next stage will be to redesign these panels in rough pencils with three variations of each for another round of review and refinement. The final stage will be to take the best of all three versions of the page designs and refine them while taking into account the review decision and feedback into on fine design of each.

  1. What methods will you use to document your progress in your practice?/ reflect on your practice (ie what forms might it take?)

I will be creating timelapse videos of every session I do while creating my designs. These will make for good social media posts to engage and grow my reader audience. The reflection stage will involve personal and peer reviews/feedback (all documented) and red pen draw overs/notes and potential thumbnail ideas/suggestions.

  1. Are there any additional methods you will use to support/evidence your research?

It would be good to do some social media poles to see what the general public think of the designs . On instagram I can pose a simple question and gain feedback from the masses. In the past when I do this on my art page @sheardo I usually get between 100-200 people engaging in the poles.
