Observation
Context
A few elements of Max's lecture on observation stood out to me during the class, specifically the ideas around context of observation, and approaching our observations with an awareness of these contexts and how they influence what we see, as well as how we see.
To add to this, the piece of Pink Floyd lyrics that Max threw in at the end got me thinking about who I am as an observer when I'm observing – how my identity in that moment is a reflection of the way in which I observe, and what I observe.
"Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me"
The task was to look at something you haven't looked at before, for an uncomfortable period of time. I figured having a camera staring at my own face while I sit and observe other things would be pretty uncomfortable.
Method
Using various mediums, I would record my context, my observation of something, and myself observing that something.
Response
My response was to combine each of these aspects of my "observation" into a single video, and then respond to various aspects from the combined outputs through sketches. This would create final sort of representation of the observed and the observer.
