Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity
Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Think about it: the MAGI end of year expo is the chance to show our work. If we are creators and makers, it's the communication outward, the showing of our creations is an integral part of this work.

Join us, don't worry about your level of skill, or your english language proficiency or your social skills. Take the leap of faith! - Henry (studio 3 legend)

Notes:

John has put a list of tasks and deliverables for the end of year expo - with some early planning we can make it a better expo, a better showcase of our student work.

Think about how we can stage, pre-production sketches, how people proceed through the space with sonic or visual cues, how we can use projection, how to present sculptural or interactive pieces.

Discussion points from Moon, Ika, Evan, Orlando, Homie, Henry, John and Kate:

  • Think about what how you could contribute illustrations and animations, like the 2018 expo poster
  • If you're wondering what to put in, everything is worth collecting, worth submitting
  • Promotion
    • This year we could have moving posters, kinetic type or gif poster
    • Lets steal ideas from RCA animation: showing the concerns of their work built interest in the show
    • Social media engagement can start early, drop Evan an email so you can get invovled in social media
    • Think about prints and flyers for publicising and representing the event
    • Trailer worked well, it was useful to send a link to game studios and other external stakeholders
  • Interactions
    • Games were very successful, people enjoyed interacting with your work
    • Interactions can be very simple, just some key presses that do stuff
    • If you do have interactive pieces think about instructions for people
    • Think about the physical interactions you want for your work
  • What is the identity of 2019 Expo?
    • Last year the identity was Imagination
    • The decision for 2018 to be multi-sensory formed the expo
    • If you have a vague idea of how you want to display your work, come forward and share it, you will help us form the identity
  • We want you
    • Your work is exhibitable, if you're worried it's not good enough why not send it in for the curator to give feedback
    • You're gonna feel like your work is not ready, that's normal, trust the MAGI team to help you see it as ready
    • Join us, don't worry about your level of skill, or your english language proficiency or your social skills. Take the leap of faith!
  • Pre-production
    • The pre-production examples got so much interest last year, think about collecting and submitting your pre-production work. It's really interesting to outsiders to see your process.
    • Pre-production can (and should) be rough, it's interesting to see the rough work
  • Planning and collaboration
    • We used google drive, facebook to collaborate and advertise
    • Now is the time to think, early in the semester before assignments come due
    • Last year was the first time in a while to use a large space and present the work this way
  • Black box screening
    • Last year we had the black box with three screenings, the third screening wasn't needed.

Actions:

  • Evan has links to 2018 collatoral so you can see what we made
