Rationale: Intention
I am interested in building a virtual adventure game world in 2D drawing.
This world could be about adventure, art environment, discover, leisure and relax.
Basically I want to draw the concept idea about the world, such as character, environment, emotions, weapons, magic, village, town and so on.
The reason why I want to do this concept drawing is I started to think about the original things, such as love, communication, relationship, happiness, enjoy and social. I want to make a concept game world that could bring people back to the original feelings, I also enjoy making concept art for games.
Context: Field
My field would be game concept design, all the design could relate to game.
The example that I would like to get inspiration from, just like the game “Sky:Children of the light” and also “Zelda” these kind of RPG adventure games. These games all have a good background story and beautiful art style. Players could feel comfort and enjoyment in these games. I want to do concept design of this kind of game.
Method
I would do research first, find the art of these games and try to make a background story of my game. Then I will start doing character design, environment drawing, weapons, magic, and what the world looks like. After that, I will try to make some emotions or movements of the character, and also the concept drawing of scenes.
If I have enough time, I would make something in 3D, could be world or little objects, which could enrich the world.
Production: Tools
Week 1 - Research on pinterest, artstation, youtube. Try to write a base storyline.
Week 2 - Start drawing some sketch of character and environment. With Photoshop.
Week 3 - Lining and colouring these sketches, make some colour trails.
Week 4 - Draw more concept design of weapons, towns or other characters.
Week 5 - Draw emotions or movements of characters.
Week 6 - Finish drawing and add some details or thoughts of the world.
(If I have time, I would do some 3D modelling of these things, with Maya, Blender.)
