I was watching an episode of Game Grumps where they played a Nintendo Switch game from Japan called Kuuki Yomi, or Consider It in Japanese.
It can be a single or two player experience. The objective of the game is to observe the situation that you are in and consider how you should react. In this sense, this is a game about social consideration and reaction. The player is given 10 different scenarios to react to in a round.
Something that the game does that I find interesting is that there is no real tutorial or scoring given to you about how to play 'correctly' or win. Instead, at the end of a round of scenarios for 2 players, for instance, you are given scores for Synchronisation, Cooperation and Support. This mechanic is interesting to me because, like real life social situations, you never get given a score or reward based on how you behave with others. Instead, you must behave the way you feel is appropriate, and there is no wrong or right way.
something else I like about this game is it's minimalistic approach to design. The simple 2D animation is appealing in that it's easy to understand and versatile. Additionally, the aesthetics sometimes feel like a call back to retro video gaming, like for Nintendo Game Boy or 8 bit games.
I want to explore animating and designing assets or characters for video games over the course of my studies. Additionally, I want to look at narrative structures for interactive media like this. The premise feels so simple but it looks like a lot of fun for a 2 player experience
