My project is about the research of character walk with different personalities. The topic this week is about stillness and pause. It is a very common element in a character’s walk, especially widely used in a robotic character

These are some tutorials about robot dance. Obviously, a real robot doesn’t really walk like that, but there are some similar features in terms of body movement. The pace is relatively fast at every point of turning and it turns slower In the middle of transition, which in general change like waves. Except that, one thing we are pretty familiar is that the consistence of the move is a distinctive feature to a robot. To do that, making good use of sudden pause is very important.

In the experiments of my project, I often make mistakes on the fluency of motion, which make characters walk like a robot.  The robotic walk exercise helps me to get a better understanding of the rhythm of biological motion.
