Aim
This week's theme is Stillness in motion.
Inspired by 'Ma' (Hayao Miyazaki), my goal with this exercise is to connect the emotion of stillness in the environment with the stillness in character.
Method
Animate the environment and the character with subtle motion in order to depict stillness.
When we wake up, we hardly remember our dreams, it becomes a shallow memory and it is hard to recognise the details. With this thought in mind, I tried to recreate this concept of dream in Unity and animated the character frame-by-frame. I created an animated shader for the water.
Result
Due to its minimalism and contrast between stillness and motion, it draws the viewer's eyes to the subject even though it is blurred. This is an abstract depiction of a dream and plays with the idea of 'nothingness'.
Discussion
I think the blurriness conceals the definite shape of the character, which is useful to recreate this feeling of 'hazy memories'.
