Aim
This week's theme is Metamorphosis, the transformation of motion.
I am experimenting with subtle motion in this exercise. My IOL project is based on emotions in human movement. I am trying to use follow through and slow in/out to animate subtlety in motion.
There are a few binaries in my project that I'd like to experiment with in this exercise, Still/Moving, Turbulence/Calm, Small/Big.
Method
It is a difficult task to give character to subtle motion because most of the movement is concealed by the flow and shape of the drawing. With charcoal animation, this gets even more challenging.
I did a frame-by-frame animation in Harmony. The idle movement of the character is achieved by looping four frames. I used the default Water Pastel brush in Harmony that gave me the flexibility to build-up form by simply drawing over the current frame if needed.
Result
I think using this particular brush in frame-by-frame animation, it gives the figure the material of liquid. Due to its flexibility to add-on the current shape, I was able to play with the idea of Metamorphosis and use it to create subtle movement.
Discussion
I wonder how Metamorphosis can be used to depict transformation in materials, for example, liquid to solid, fragile to tough, bouncy to heavy.
