I wanted to do another hand-drawn exercise for our homework, engaging with sound and animation. I used Sound #21 from the collection of sounds Nick gave us, as I thought it had a variety of pitches and rhythms within its structure.
In this 10sec experiment, I tried to attempt a more instinctive approach to animation, wherein I would listen to the sound only once, then begin animating given a time limit of 1 hour. Having done this experiment with the pressure of time, I became even more comfortable with Toon Boom Harmony's UI, as well as the Peg system that Nick taught us. I found it fun and natural to create instinctive drawings/animation patterned to erratic and random sounds to portray movement.
It comes to a surprise to me that I'm appreciating more and more the charm of hand-drawn animation, despite my rough lines and shapes. I'm keen on developing my own art style in hand-drawn animation and thinking of ways I could incorporate them as animated sprites in Unity. I might try to explore future experiments with sound, but with a less abstract approach to the visuals. For some reason, I gravitated drawing a sun with the fast typewriter-type sound. Hence the title Suntitled. Which was originally going to be titled "Untitled."
