In response to the weekly theme of Stillness, I worked on three scenes based on my previous project. I want to present three different scenes with simple looped animated items. There were only walls and a door initially, so I built the interior to make the place look like a functioning location, just without people. The idea is similar to the opening of the animation Spirited Away, in which the protagonist and her parents go to a strange place, seeing no one until all creatures come out after the sun goes down.
I designed three interiors and produced the models according to the images and other references in Procreate. Two of the iteration is the wind slightly blowing up the curtain, showing a subtle movement in the surrounding stillness. And one of them shows flickering lights of neon signs. The scene is frozen, but the light turning on and off can create an illusion that something is happening. The outcome is contributed to the future project.
Firstly, I designed the interior in Procreate. They have their own themes. The first one is a Taiwanese fried chicken shop with mostly a lot of cookware, lanterns and curtains. . I use the Blender particle system to make the curtains slightly blown by the wind. This idea was applied to the spa house scene, which contains some retro items like a salt lamp, an old TV, plants and some wooden signs. In the pawn shop scene, the light of the sign flickers. I iterated the response by setting keys in emission strength in the material. Overall, this is an excellent opportunity to craft and test the details. Although the object has no apparent motion, it can make the project look vaguely detailed.
