Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Method: Week 7 was a bit rough for a variety of non-uni related reasons, and I found myself getting very stuck with what to code or draw. I started by listing out a number of thematic opposites that occur in this project, and then used them to create a number of sketches related to the theme of metamorphosis: how one idea could potentially change to its opposite.

While I had planned to take one of these ideas and program it into an interactive experiment, I... got pretty stuck on how to tie the theme in with my project. So it wound up as just a sketch page.

Result:

  • Some of the most prevalent binaries in my game project include: Light and dark (visually), clean and cluttered, mundane and spooky, normalcy and escapism.
  • Early sketches took a very literal approach to the theme of metamorphosis. I toyed around with the store becoming more "horrific" while the lights were turned off: shelves becoming sinister silhouettes, coins being mistaken for spiders.
  • Later ones toyed with the idea of slower, subtler, more player-driven transformations. This includes such ideas as the storage room of the office gradually transforming into a chaotic mess as the player solves puzzles.

Discussion: While I don't currently have a place for any of these ideas in the scenes I'm working on for this semester, I do like the idea of the whole room gradually transforming with player interactions. I'll put a pin in that for solo work/next semester.
