In an ongoing look at graphic recombination, I am attempting to design an alien ecosystem based on pre-existing drawings from history. I take scientific illustrations by Ernst Haeckel, kaleidoscope them and cut them apart. After altering their forms, I begin putting the pieces back together in new configurations. These botanical shapes resembling palm fronds are actually based on illustrations of prehistoric trilobites.
