Guest speaker Chad Toprak discussed his views on the social aspect of games and how he rose into the role of Freeplay Independent Games Festival director.
Toprak highlighted his value of video games that exist in a physical space, rather than just in a traditionally digital space, placing emphasis on the players and their interactions and social experiences.
Toprak also pointed out the necessity to have a strong community of practice that helps raise each other up and celebrate achievements rather than isolate practitioners. It was through his own community that he received the nudge to begin curating his own public exhibits, pushing aside the "toxic permission culture" he had come to understand.
