Guest Lecture Week 10

Guest speaker Damian Smart discussed his 20+ years in the animation industry and the many roles he undertook before becoming Line Producer for Bogan Entertainment Solutions.

Smart drew upon his time working for Disney’s Australian studio, where he worked on direct to VHS titles such as The Little Mermaid 2, Lady and the Tramp 2 and Peter Pan 2. He pointed out that “when you work for Disney, nothing is ever perfect”, referring to his high standards in his own works to this day.

Smart also mentioned the importance of expanding one’s craft in order to become multi-skilled and hence more employable, while also needing to follow a passion. He mentioned a former lecturer of mine, Mark Sheard, who followed his passion for pin-up poster art and now judges rockabilly contests around the state.
