If play transforms traditions, do traditions restrict play?
Guest speaker Chris Barker discussed daily practice, tools and traditions, exploring the unknown, and radical empathy through discovery and play.
Something that stood out was the idea that hestitation can lead to play and discovery - where hesitation can often be seen as the inability to proceed, it can also be utilised to provide the opportunity to shake off our habits and traditions to reimagine our approach to a task.
It's easy to fall into creative habits when we find a workflow that's safe, calculated and familiar. Creative practitioners should be able to relieve themselves of the burden of "being a creator" and instead focus on the act of creating, whether it bears fruit or not.
