Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Being both an artist and a music producer, at some point in production there is a correlation between sound and image with relation to time. Music is uses tempo / BPM (beats per minute) and Videos are measures in frames or FPS.

Below is a link I found that helps bridge the mathematical hassle of trying to find the perfect sync between music and the images that are playing on screen.

Most Music videos are not necessary always in sync to the music. Beats are quite often the most easiest expressions of sound and image. There’s a reason why the saying goes- “move to the beat”. Beats or Rhythm is essentially markings in time that express tempo with speed. When you bring animation into the picture and playback together we quite often unconsciously match beats and patterns in music with what’s on screen, all the more when its music. (try it- chose any action packed scene of any movie on mute and try and pick music that you feel would match the scene. You would automatically try and link all possible ‘beat-matches’)

The Images created show patterns to hand drawn frame by frame animation which as compared to neat keyframed digital camera. Various softwares can produce super acurate music tempos (basically electronic music)- animating perfectly to the neatly arranged electronic music patterns its better to use keying of effects in say After Effects. Where as having hand drawn frames being more similar to acoustic music or possibly dubstep synths.
