Theme

Objects are not exhausted.

Method

I will respond to the theme by creating a cutout styled animation with royalty free images sourced from pexels.com.

Context

Angela Anaconda (tv series, 1999) and South Park both use cutout animation styles, which I would like to inform this piece.

Response

My immediate initial idea was to present many disconnected shots of buildings, lights, stairs, doors, with no people, but then Max showed us the video of every shot of Seinfeld with no people in it, so that was a no go.

I then thought of creating a short that begins with rocks in their natural habitat (hanging out with other rocks, not moving), and then one by one they’re picked up by a hand and thrown away to be skipped across water. Then I thought “nah, I shouldn’t have a person in it”.

I then thought about my sister’s dog and how it likes to chew on rocks. I created a couple of animated vignettes of rocks hanging out, being rocks, and a dog that decides to do what it wants to the rocks.

Max helped me in pushing this animation further than I was expecting, and this led to the animations being really quite abstract in how the dog is portrayed. In one vignette you see the dog swimming, without legs. In the next vignette you see what the legs are doing without the rest of the dog, and they seem pretty annoyed to me.
