Theme: Place
Method: To spend 2 hours sketching an environment, that in some way tells the viewer about the characters who inhabit it.
Context: Blue Plate Special by Jeff Lee Johnson, Gravity Falls environments, Studio 1 Work
Response:

When it comes to drawing environments, there's two things I've always wanted to do: draw an environment that really reflects what a character's life is like, and draw an image that gets progressively more unsettling the longer you look at it. So when this week rolled around I went, hey, let's try both at once.

In order to make things easier on myself, I decided to base the scene around some characters I had previously used in my Studio 1 project. The gist of that game was that the protagonist's social life was being badly impacted by her job at a movie rental store, and the ghosts that were haunting her.

Trying to find ways of conveying those things without, like, literally putting a demon in the scene proved interesting. But hopefully the sheer mess of stuff tucked away at the bottom does a good enough job of that.
