Theme
This week's theme is 'Time'. Time as a material, has various forms, for example, captured time, algorithmic time, fictive time, varying time.
Context
Inspired by Zabriskie Point's explosion scene, the model of Varying Time is not constantly proceeding, therefore, it gives the feeling of elongated time. So, I was wondering what could be the opposite of this model - "Lapsing Time", a period that is inevitably present yet almost still but measured over a long course.
I looked at timelapse photography of the sky and I thought what if that phenomenon is explored in outer space? What if someone in the space is recording the lapsing of time of earth? I wonder how would it look like to see centuries in a second? What if the time is measured differently by 'them'?
Response
I wanted to keep it simple as I was very clear that I wanted to make a loop of a second. So, I chose 2d Animation as the medium and tried animating earth drawing a simple circle. I thought of animating the background and keeping the object almost still in order to create the feeling of 'lapsing of time'.
I believe the earth is losing its pivot point overtime and the resources are depleting. So, I have tried to express that concept by making the earth completely white and as it moves to the right, the level of resources reduce.
Being a newbie to 2d animation, I used TV Paint and tried to keep it minimal using simple geometrical shapes to express the concept.
