In response to wk10 activity theme of Design System, I created the 4 Rules of Constraint:
1. Create props or an environment from the shapes on the facade/elevation of a building
2. Create a narrative driven by the prop or environment
3. Use a style different to the chosen building’s architectural style. e.g. Apply a Brutalist style to an Art Deco Corbusier building
4. Choose a different colour palette from the building and the imposed style e.g. restrict a Brutalist interpretation of an Art Deco building to a Pop Art palette
By doing this, I created different narratives of the original intent of each building by applying different pop artists styles on top of the facades and adding some harsh lines of brutalism. In the Library manipulation, the third I did, I blurred the lines of brutalism and the Neo-Classical architectural style, but I don’t think it really worked in imposing the brutalism in a subtle way (the antithesis of Brutalism).
Artists of pop reinterpret objects bending their narratives. I selected Yayoi Kusama, Harinton Pushwagner and David Hockney to draw from as each pop artist is very different from each other just as are the architectural styles of Flinders St Station of French Renaissance style,
Southbank Eureka Towers of Modernist style
Victoria State Library of Neo-Classical style
