WK01 0BSERVATION

http://magistudio.net/work/cps-wk-1-simiao-gao

In observation practice, I used our sense to create art. I explored blind drawing with Sophia. We drew each other's face on paper while tried to capture the facial expression through touching instead of seeing. This exercise created a route of communication between two hands and the value is the hand that makes the mark responds to the hand that is exploring the face. Information will be transferred, made visible and the drawing is made in response to touch.

WK02 TINKERING AS METHOD

In this practice, I am interested in ideogram. A number of Chinese are ideographic (指事; zhǐshì) in origin. Chinese character, essentially each character or graph symbolizes a single idea. I want to 'extend' these single ideas. Based on this principle, I picked two Chinese characters and play with them, tried to trace the origin of ideogram, make transitions toward new symbol or concept through rearranging, constructing or deconstructing the characters. I enjoy to start without planning. Gather ideas that we came up with and arranged them randomly. May have unexpected results.

WK03 FOUND OBJECTS

Much of life's quality and meaning is expressed through plants. In this practice, I want to present the plant contributions to human with a sensory experience, I collected plants like leaves, made some pattern and texture. Then integrate it with digital technology(Photoshop). At the beginning of this exercise, I put objects deliberately, hoping to get a beautiful and meaningful pattern. It is really different between design from existing object and design from nothing. Think about too much will  lose the organic beauty of plants. So I arranged the plants randomly then take photos, import them into photoshop and made adjustments. As the result, the same photos show different things, which I think reflects the integration of objects and digital technology in an effective way.

WK04 DISCUSSIONS OF PLACE

http://magistudio.net/work/cps-wk04-discussions-of-place

In this practice, my concept is telling story through environment. I used same character and environment but change the design of that environment to tell a different story and give audience different feelings. Therefore, the place I chose is The Port Arthur historic Site. I used a photography of penitentiary and simply adjusted the brightness of the photo, added color and shape which let the photography showed a completely different state. It looks like a fantasty story about  a penitentiary club at midnight. I think this practice can be applied in our game/animation project instead of focusing on the animated characters. A story can impart directly to the audience through environment, with little or no interpretation necessary.

WK05 OBJECTS ARE NOT EXHAUSTED

http://magistudio.net/work/cps-wk05

I love the calming feeling that plants bring to me. I also like objects which are far away from us, or something we can't see, such as clouds or wind. We can't see or capture the wind but still can feel it, Especially when I hear the rustle of the wind through the leaves. My first reaction is the wind rising rather than the leaves is rustling. I think this is a very strong point of interaction between objects. I want to observe the relationship between wind and plants from the perspective of a tree. I recorded 4 videos for a tree, in the front of my apartment, then made an environment in Unity beacuse it is much easier to simulate the effects of weather in unity. Also for  a more realistic environment to generate viewers into the role. We always go from individual initiative to other objects. Introverted attitudes view the outer world in terms of the self's subjective ideal, so they attempt to make the outer world more like the inner self. Try to let go of our subjective thoughts and observe the world, the objects around us. We may find a lot of novelty.
