Context
Normally character is the most important role in a story, it is their action that push the plot forward. However, what’s more important is that the story is emerged from environment.
What if we can tell a story just by observing the environment, characters’ action has an impact on environment, the clues of which may even reveals a simple story or something that’s related to the character. I want to start with a simple process, like connecting a series of objects with a simple story , how to make the changing environment telling something without characters, or maybe we can learn the characters through their surroundings.
With no characters in the scene, we may not be able to find out what happened here. However, with some tiny changes in the scene, can we figure out what a story it is telling?
When the clues are not obvious enough, most of us wont stop guessing what’s going next. In other words, it triggers our curiosity and force us to imagine, which is frequently utilized in horror movie.
Method
I want to tell a story just showing a series of objects. The environment where the story takes place is constituted from various kinds of object. I want to try if I can deliver a simple story with some simple objects.
Response
During the process of drawing, I realized they became some clues leading my thoughts. After finshing it, different stories emerge when I reviewed these stuff, which is a big suprise to me. It could be a totally new story to someone else. I guess in every envirnment, there are always some special objects used for telling the story while the other stuff build the atmosohere.
