In response to this week’s theme of Found Object, I produced a pavilion with paper straws, tissue paper, plastic bags, flour and white glue.

By creating this installation, I examine the idea of capturing the traces of the invisible wind. One can observe through the stripes that are blown up as the wind blows across the pavilion. The surrounding mist also reflected traces of the wind. On the stand is a paper towel featuring goldfish, inspired by carp streamers. Flour is occasionally swept into the air. Through the elements affected by the wind, we can delineate its outline, which comes in through the gate of the pavilion.

I began with building the bracket. I tried different ways to align the paper straws. After the primary structure of the work had been done, I added more layers by gluing tissue paper and plastic stripes to the bracket and drew a goldfish with markers on the tissue paper. Finally, I use objects and lighting to create the atmosphere and enhance the presentation.

Similar work has been produced by Ling-Li Tseng in the work ”Mist Encounter”. It is a building interacts with sun and breeze. As visitors walk from the outer to inner square, they will be gradually enveloped by the mist, and things will appear and disappear as the mist alternately gets heavier and lighter.
