Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

In response to this week’s theme of tinkering, I produced a 3D model of Kappa in Blender, and rendered into a short demonstration film.

There is a kappa sticker on my laptop, so I decided to model a kappa. By modeling this random object, I explored more possibilities. In the production, the details of components, such as the position of the facial features, are determined by intuition. The work is built step by step, and after the initial stage was completed, I continued to plan for the next step, thinking about what else can be done to make it unique and creative. There is no boundary in this work because the meaning of tinkering is not making plans all at once. When I modelled a Kappa’s head, I decided to make a room in the head of it. Finally, I want to showcase the back of the head, so I rendered it into a film.

Similar work has been produced by Champion Jason, whose work (Wind of Tiger) explores this theme by sculpting a head of tiger, and then adds more details such as materials, as he moved on. This injection-molded artwork comes from multiple experiments with different materials, each time modifying the proportions of the liquid, culminating in this translucent statue.
