Annotation

In response to the theme of observation, I made a quick interactive visual called "The Elizabeth Street Hues on 03/03/2022 12:30pm" using Figma. By extracting the silhouettes and hues of the imageries captured, I wanted record the hue and texture of this particular time and space around my home in an angle that I never used before, the ground. Trivial things like the fallen leaves, the sketchy construction marks, and shadows, the trash, they all composed the visual of reality of the moment I saw/ perceived there. It is intriguing to me what would happen if I separate the visual qualities of these images and play around with them. I therefore leveraged the photos of this quantitative observation, extracted the major hues and silhouettes by photo processing software. And through simple interaction, users could create a color sequence by hovering on the texture and pattern. This was a fun and quick experiment that I made in such a short period of time. I wish to have more time to elaborate the idea, by deconstructing more of the visual qualities or even introduce sounds to the experience, or make another visual in another place to compare the difference.

Work in progress

  1. Hello beautiful people! So I went out for a 15mins walk but overran a bit. Wanted to observe my neighbourhood in a new angle. So I took pictures every few steps of the ground and those caught my attention! Haha I don’t have much time left to play around with these images. Thinking would turn them into a mosaic like poster? Let’s see how it goes
  2. I am still experimenting with the images, I tried to arrange them and apply a blur onto them to see the overall color pallette. But I love the geometric shapes and lines in the images , I will see how I can preserve them and blend into the piece
  3. I decided to deconstruct the images into silhouettes and hues. I like how the silhouettes showed the patterns, bumpiness, and geometric signs clearly. I want to make it into a simple interactive experience, so to repaint these silhouettes with the generated hues
  4. So I added a play sequence to the hue, and simple logics allowing uses to create color sequence on the silhouettes by moving the cursor
  5. I feel like adding the original pictures into the experience to create a contrast and to reveal what are these silhouettes tiles. Users can show/hide the original images by clicking on the page
