CPS week 9 - Rules and Forces

In response to the theme Rules and Forces, I created a collection of small illustrations using procreate and photoshop, following the rules; one cannot undo while drawing; one must use the eraser tool to draw on coloured background; a pixel filter must be applied to the image at the end. By drawing different plants that are used a lot environmentally in ancient Chinese fiction and adding a crystallisation filter to the finished line work, I presented an interesting abstracted looking of botanic objects and showed how the mixture of different techniques could result in something unexpected in illustration. Similar works have been produced by the contemporary illustrator Yichui, who did a series of realistic illustrations of flowers and plants from photographs. By capturing the details from photos with ink and watercolour brushes, Yichui also presents the feel of stillness in ancient Chinese gardens, to the viewers. ( Yichui, 2021)
