In response to the theme of Character and Events, I made a Lo-Fi pixel artwork which consists of a girl commuting to school early in the morning in Tokyo via the metro using the pixel art software Piskel.
With the artwork, I wanted to capture the calm, isolating mood which is commonplace in Lo-Fi artworks which I achieved by having a mainly blue colour palette with red accents used reserved for points of interesting being the girl's headphones and phone which would be the focal points. I also ensured that there was no linework in the artstyle to best reflect the calm scene and allowed form to be a major method to portray any silhouttes to best describe their character's actions within her commute in the metro.
I was inspired by the work of Japanese pixel artist Yuuta Toyoi with his animated gifs of daily life in Japanese scenes, Toyoi's scenes evoke a sense of calmness which is a major aspect of Lo-Fi artwork which I wanted to replicate. I was also inspired by ChilledCow's "lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to" stream which features visuals of a girl studying in her room which became an iconic icon of Lo-Fi subculture as the character performs a task of studying which is relatable to the listeners of the stream which I attempted to execute by having a girl who is commuting and listening to music on her phone.
